Born of Jamaican parents and a vibrant culture where reggae music is a
dominant figure. Barrington King, most popular known as “Barry back” was
born in the community of Glengoffe, Saint Catherine on the 5th of august 1959.
He attended Glengoffe High School (formerly known as “Glengoffe secondary”).
His love for music was discovered at a tender age of thirteen(13) when he
wrote and sang his first song, entitled: “gi girl money”. He first sung it at school
among his friends . After graduating in the late 1970s, he migrated internally
to a more populated community called “Portmore”, located in the same
parish/state (Saint Catherine). While following up on his passion for music he
became friends with “Sasa frass” after seeing/hearing him(Sasa frass) sung on
the “Black Scorpio sound system” in the mid 1980s. Being inspired by
established names such as: General trees, Micky Melody, King yellow man and
Everton Blender, and now “Sasa Frass”. His dream(s) seemed to be coming to
reality when he officially recorded his first single that he wrote back in
School(gi girl money). It seemed like all was about to happen for Barry Back
when he met and did combinations with Half Pint, General Tress and Everton
Blender in the early 1990s. It would soon be proven that not all that glitter is
gold, Barry Back was on the verge of the outbreak that everyone in the music
industry dreamed of but all was shattered when non of his “massive
combinations” and/or solo singles made it to main-stream radio outside of
Jamaica. Although disappointed and frustrated, his love for music would now
come into play as years went by and still nothing major happening for Barry’s
music career, regardless of all the setbacks he never gave up on his self. The
hunger for his voice to be heard and to be apart of the solution to society’s
problem/struggle(s) kept him going. For over two(2) decades he kept
recording and promoting his music via social media, CDs etc. Hard work
usually pays off as it is about to be proven once again. In the year 2015 he
recorded two of his biggest singles titled: “root for the youth” and “needle eye”,
one year later he recorded another major song titled: “herbalist”. Those
three(3) songs are now in heavy rotation in Europe, Uk, Affrica and parts of the
U.S. He will be releasing his first “EP” titled: “root fi jah youths” early 2017,
followed by his debut album titled: “jah shine his light” in the same year. The
light at the end of the tunnel are now visible to his eyes, we are looking
forward to his success and domination.
